Yes, things do happen down there, but it's a whole lot harder to see because it's all going on inside the lips of the vulva, and the parts involved are smaller than a penis. So in order to capture anything on film, I would have to: 1. Have no panties on 2. Be laying on my back with my legs spread (I'm usually on my back when I have wet dreams anyway, for some reason, but it'd be my luck the one time I really have to be I won't) 3. Have the camera close enough to my crotch to see the small details and 4. Have good lighting on my genital area. Number one... yes here up north from the equator is almost winter... south is almost summer... south of the equator there are as many cold places as north... it's just the way the earth is... winter to us means the the inclination of earth is towards the southern part... same happens when we are in summer... the inclination of earth is closer to the sun for us... that doesn't mean that they have hotter climates... the ones that have template climates are the one closer to the equator... remember that last year's World Cup was hosted by a southern hemisphere country and they were freezing cold in the matches??? All this to explain that it's harder to record them because... IT'S WINTER!!!! I wouldn't be able to sleep without blankets or something to guard me from getting cold... that's me but maybe there are some dudes that have internal furnaces or something not to get cold at night in winter... ask zach... it has been so freaking cold lately around here

Oh, well I know that it must get cold down there, but other than Antarctica, not over any land, right? I mean, there is just more land up north to get cold verses the south. Are there as many places like all of north Russia, like Siberia, or Norway, Iceland, Greenland, northern Canada and Alaska down south? Maybe southern South America, like Chile and Argentina. (I am good at geography!) Only Africa and Australia go down almost as far south as Chile, and those places are nowhere as close to the south pole as places you can go up north that are closer to the north pole.

But maybe it is getting colder down there. I thought global warming would help you out a bit. It is actually warmer than usual up here right now.

yup its fricken cold right now here in SD. 58*F high and low 30's and high 20's at night. funny i was talking to my dad and grandpa about it being so cold and they both said this was normal weather pattern here in San Diego before i was born but the last 12-15 years have been unusually warm.

and just for the record i (and my parents and grandparents) dont believe in global warming at all. i do believe there is a climate shift occurring just like what has happened to the world for millions of years and there aint a damn thing you or i are gonna do about it so stop wasting your money on all the crap people are leading you to believe will save the world. Can't really believe we are even discussing the global warming as if it exists or not... There is much scientific evidence that those saying that is the normal way the planet is shifting it's climate is bullocks. I teach science so explaining all the processes that the Earth goes through would take me long. I guess there are many republicans here, but either if it exists or not it will never be a bad measure to take care of the planet... reducing emissions of CO2 and such will do us no harm and will help the planet and the inheritance for our children and grandchildren. But lets not start that debate because it involves political views and to keep the peace here... lets not. So shifting again to the wd videos...

Global warming aside, this has been an interesting topic. As few and far between as my WDs are, it's not too likely that I would ever be able to catch one on video, but it did get me to thinking: What does my penis end up doing all night long? I don't want to hijack this thread, but I can't help but think that there are other guys who have wondered the same thing. So, to ease my curiosity, I set up a web cam and recorded myself sleeping au natural (with a space heater cranking the temp up!). Obviously, 8 or so hours is a long time to watch a video to figure out what was going on, so I time-lapsed it down to about 20 minutes. It's funny to watch because I'm breathing so rapidly! If anyone is interested, I'll share what I discovered about myself from this "experiment" in a couple of days (I don't want to prejudice any man who might want to try this for himself). I won't share the video, so please don't ask. I have a suspicion that results might be different based upon the subjects age (I'm 47), so it would be interesting to correlate results from different age groups...

Before going into what I discovered, let's cover a little background.

47 years old
good physical condition
no medications
light sleeper
grower (rather than show-er)

Environment
guest bedroom
elevated room temperature with a noisy space heater
light on
wore t-shirt (I don't like sleeping in a shirt)

Expectation
Almost every time I wake up during the night or in the morning, I have an erection. My expectation going in is that I would see that I had an erection most all night long.


About an hour before going to sleep, I took 25mg of Doxylamine (Unisom) to help me sleep. Despite this, I still woke up 5 or 6 times. What I found from looking at the video was that I rarely had an erection during the night, but right before I would wake up, or right after I woke up, I would get an erection. If I had my normal sleeping environment, and had slept more soundly, I suspect this might have been different. I did have two instances of erections while sleeping, and both times I recall dreaming (just standard dreams) during that time frame. Both times the erections were of a short duration. What surprised me the most was how my penis changed flaccid size during the night. At standard speed, it's difficult to notice, but at 20x speed, my penis was growing and shrinking, but staying flaccid, all night long. These changes in size are probably occurring over 1-2 minutes, sometimes more. At the start of the night, the changes weren't great, may 1/2 inch. But, towards the end of the night, it was probably a 2 or 3 inch change. It would shrink way down, like I was cold (but my scrotum did not change), and then "re-inflate," and perhaps at times, somewhat over-inflate (perhaps slightly erect). Much as I hate to use it, the turtle's head analogy fits really well!

So, I came away surprised that I wasn't erect most of the night. I have no trouble with erections, so I'm not concerned about the low volume of nighttime erections the video showed. I had no idea my penis changed size so much during the night. It's a wonder it's not exhausted during the day from all that nighttime activity! I totally don't understand why I most always got erect around the time I would wake up. Maybe there was a rush of testosterone at wake up?

I would love to repeat this experiment with some sort of infrared camera, so that I wouldn't have to have the light on. I know I would have slept a whole lot better in the dark!

Interesting results. I know there are sleep clinics that you can go to where they record video and audio and they connect you up to heart monitors and everything but to be honest I don't think I would sleep if I went to one because I would be nervous. Not to mention they connect some thing around your penis to measure activity in that area too!

As for sleeping with or without light it doesn't really bother me. The thing that disturbs me the most is a sudden change in lighting. Like when someone walks in and opens the curtains or when someone turns the landing light on (I sleep with my door wide open and always have done. I don't like sleeping with it shut when I'm at home).

I never sleep naked either, I just wear PJs. I have tried it on occasion when I lived in university accommodation but I didn't ever sleep very well. Loved the feeling and it was really comfy but always woke up loads. Not sure why, probably because I'm not used to it. It couldn't of been for fear of anyone seeing me with the covers off because it was my own room and I always locked my door at night.

There is actually an explanation of the the low volume of nighttime erections. Sleep medication depresses REM sleep, which is when dreams occur, as such it also depresses actions that occur during it, like erections. Hence many people on sleep meds sleep but don’t dream very much which is unhealthy in other ways but at least explains this situation.

I never knew this but it seems to make sense to me. I don't know though, my penis seems to increase and decrease in size without me knowing. Fully flaccid I'm about 3.5" if I'm lucky and sometimes I'm 4.5" or 5" Yet when I'm fully erect I'm close to 8". I thought initially it was the temperature but I decided it couldn't be and it must of been a subconscious indication of how horny I was feeling or not.
