Bacon. (And you think I'm joking.)

I got on a fix just a bit ago to try to satisfy my lust for whatever hormone gets injected in your brain when you're looking at erotic imagery. So I looked for some, found some, looked at it, had those hormones injected into my brain (thanks mortal body!) and wanted to look for more when I remembered what C. S. Lewis said once. Something about bacon...

It was while attacking those live erotic shows that he said something like 'why wouldn't I just watch a strip of freshly cooked bacon? Have a cloth over the bacon that slowly gets removed. After I internalized the thought, I started looking around for bacon, curious to see if my lust and desire for tasty strips of greasy meat could be satisfied with mere images and imagination as well.

This is what I find. I enjoy it, and there is a sort of pleasure to looking at bacon. Naturally, I started salivating. Just as naturally, I could almost taste it. There it was, an upclose shot of bacon with the pleasing texture detailed in front of me. Its taste filled my mouth with some help offered by my imagination.

So what does this mean? Is pornography at all on par with foodography? Or does this make erotic imagery seem less evil and more okay? I'll make some more in depth commentary after I hear what others have to say.

anything that is favorable to the organism's survival and procreation causes the organism to feel pleasure. for humans, it could be sex, food, money (power), etc. they cause your brain to produce pleasure chemical know as serotonin and dopamine.

yes, having one can suppress the other, as your theory says, maybe food may inhibit the seek for sex/masturbation. i don't know

makes sense because some heroin addict have been known to neglect sex all together because it doesn't have the pleasure potential that heroin has..

With pornography, a person can satisfy their lust through MB. With foodography, a person can't satisfy their cravings with mere images and imagination; there is nothing equivalent to MB which can be done while watching images of bacon -- other than eating something that tastes like bacon.

You're right, Kidrock. And I realize I shouldn't be surprised that I "like" to look at bacon. It's something for survival. It's part of being a life-form.

Now Lucid, you raise an interesting point with bringing MB into it.
Desire is toward something. There's a goal. Sexual desire has climax as its goal, while hunger has consumption as its goal. But one is input while the other is output. We can "trick" our bodies into thinking it's having sex, reaching the standard expected climax, when really it's just us. With hunger, it requires input from an external source: food. So you're right, when viewing images of stuff, hunger won't ever get satisfied with ONLY images and imagination.
