This year for Lent I decided to give it all up no sex of any kind, wife is aware and on board but doesn't think I'll make it. So I'm asking for encouragement and support from the rest of you on my quest. I attempted this before but without much luck, made it 8 or 9 days before but that's about the longest. Ash Wednesday was the beginning of Lent however I started two days early. I try to post each day with how I'm doing and any changes I notice and also how difficult the day seems to be.

So, today is day 6 and I would say it's a 4 out of 10 on the difficultly scale if 10 would be I failed.

Don't notice much difference yet except testicles seem a little fuller and heavier, did have a really good erection this morning when I woke up. No WD however on day 4 it was strange, I had some kind of dream, can't recall what it was about but I woke up with an erection and I felt as I was about to ejaculate, my penis head was real sensitive and I thought that if I would have stayed a sleep a few seconds longer that it would have happened.

Anyway, it's day 6 today.

Starting day 7, difficulty level about a 3 out of 10 right now. Woke up semi hard and wet with precum had another strange dream but no wd.

That is a wonderful idea. When my wife and I were first married, we would give up sex every lent, give up masturbation too. We would look forward to the Easter bunny, and both of our kids were conceived either on an Easter or a few days later.

Depending on the Christian denomination, Lent is sometimes viewed as a time of 'fasting and self-denial'. A priest I know rather well once told me that the ultimate self-denial was to abstain from sex of any kind, including masturbation. He also told me that if someone is giving up something for Lent, Sundays don't count in the 40 days, thus its ok to eat candy, or have sex, or masturbate, though if you want to abstain on Sundays, that's fine too.

It's a good idea to give it up for lent. I usually give up chocolate but it wouldn't be a bad idea to give something else up when easter comes round again. Good luck on AB!

Some questions;

Why is my morning wood so much harder/fuller and more throbbing than a normal woody?

Do your nuts seem to get fuller/heavier when you go longer and longer?

If I don't MB and only have sex with wife does that count against me in getting a WD? Sex is usually only once a week.

Morning wood - when you have been lying down all night, its easy for your body to pump blood to your penis! I get some crazy morning wood too!

sex and WD. I would say it wont do any harm, MB seems to have more of a negative effect on WD's in my experience!

I think it makes sense that getting completely away from the MB habit would make WDs more likely, since you would then look forward to sex without even thinking about MB as an option. Besides, doesn't never masturbating make sex feel better? And wouldn't WDs while waiting for sex be much better than MB?

It's too bad that us older guys didn't have the internet, no fap sites, and the WD forum when we were young. Instead, we just incorrectly 'learned' that MB was good, healthy, normal, expected, and that everyone did it.

Now, the list of the positives of AB (and its opposite, the negatives of MB) gets longer and longer almost every day.

I think we could summarize the 'new norm' this way:
-The negatives of MB outweigh its positives.
-The only normal outlets are a combination of WDs and/or sex in various percentages, depending on the person and their circumstances. 0% sex is fine and normal depending on the person, it just means 100% WDs. At the other extreme, very frequent sex might mean 0% WDs.

But no matter where you are on that spectrum, just don't MB!

Day 6 heading towards the weekend and most likely some sex with wife, last night got woke up in the middle of the night (not from erection but from something else) and noticed a rather bigger than normal semi hard on (I sleep in the raw).

The morning wood is starting to get more intense, testicles seem bigger and fuller, the head seems more sensitive, looking down I kind of feel sorry for it because it's looking up at me and kind of saying play with me (it was use to being played with at least 3 times a week). Maybe I should give it a name, do any of you have a name for your your penis? If you are married or have a girlfriend does she have a name for it? Mostly my wife calls it weenier.

Maybe if I put some humor with it maybe it will make it easier, maybe I should talk to it, something like no not today my little friend you have to wait for the weekend.

I might be getting a little strange here not sure, what do you think?

Heading into day 7 with no MB, really heavy solid balls this morning, feels good, no WD and no strange dreams, tingling sensation. Been sleeping really good and waking up feeling rested. Have a busy day with lots of things to get done so today should be easy to not MB.

27 days no mb, some very hard middle of the night wood and morning wood, erotic dream the other night that almost caused a wd however I woke up just before it happened. Think I'll keep going for awhile and see what happens.
