Day Four!

Finally I get to update my log!

(Miramon Lluagor is the magician who designs WD for teenage dudes in James Branch Cabell's Figures of Earth, a book I enjoyed as a 13 year old. I don't mean see to claim that any such person exists, but it's just a convenient name to have for whoever/whatever designs our WD.)

I'm also wondering how we share this chunk of wisdom with the common discourse, the world outside of WDF, the world in which the Christian community never talks about sexy dreams, and the gay community has no way of interpreting SSWD except literally. The gay community is pushing hard to reduce the process of sexual identity to an interpretative dimension of zippo-- so that a kid thinks: "I had a dream about a guy, once gay always gay, so now I'll NEVER have a wife and kids, I guess I better kill myself." IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT, and the testimony of such robustly masculine "rugger=bugger" types like you is necessary to helping kids understand that SSWD are what they are, you just laugh and go on with your life. I think boys turning 10 should have special SET APART classes, no girls, to learn about the kind of imagery that is likely to appear in WD and how they should interpret it, and how they should KEEP IT SECRET. One has to build a masculine social structure to HOLD the new masculine energy that comes with WD, one has to LEAVE the domestic world and TRAVEL to the young-masculine adventure world, and that takes a lot of new skills for a kid. I can't digress here, but Cf. the four-fold interpretive method in Dante criticism, and the first four books of the Odyssey, the "Telemachiad."

Second the comeraderie of sports dudes strikes me as very wonderful, and I love hearing about it. I was always a math and language guy, -- OK, a huge nerd -- which is I put your Scottish name into the vocative, the "Yo CALLUM!" form. Do you ever share with them about WD, or they with you?

Third, I'm a Celtic dude, filtered through many generations of American experience. My grandfather's grandfather came over from Wales, and I've always been interested in connecting with my Celtic roots.
