So here is a question that I have had for a long time. Why is it okay for a woman to wear a two piece bikini and a man to wear a speedo to a beach yet wrong to wear a bra and panties or tighty whities in the same scenario?
Other than the blend of fabrics, I don't get the difference. Does anyone have any thoughts? Both garments cover what is meant to me covered and in some cases bra's and panties cover more than a bikini does and does briefs compared to a speedo.

Interesting. I think it's all down to perception. Social convention says underwear is not supposed to be exposed in public and when it is it causes a reaction.

Bikinis and Speedos, however revealing, are perceived as clothing that is intended and quite proper to be worn in public and therefore perfectly OK.

Also, swimwear such as Speedos are constructed in such a way as to ensure they won't turn transparent when wet. A lot of underwear does as it's not designed to be wet.

It's like wearing a suit to a black tie event. Simply just the wrong clothing for the occasion and as Activa says, functionally not appropriate either.
