I came across this thread (see the link below) this morning and thought I would share it with you all.

The thread and the links explore the thought that vegetarian diets lead to a decrease in testosterone levels. I think it's applicable here because, although we all come from various backgrounds and have various goals, testosterone is a hormone that affects us all. It is what makes us manly. Also there are a couple of body builders and health "nuts" (for lack of a better word -- I mean no offence) on here who might have considered vegetarianism or veganism.

It would be cool to hear your thoughts on the subject.

From what I read a vegetarian diet could impede testosterone production.
Testosterone is a chemical derived from cholesterol, the base chemical used by the body to manufacture hormones (one of which is testosterone). Cholesterol itself is under a class of compounds more commonly known as sterols (a group of aromatic alcohols with three cyclohexane rings and one pentane ring). Cholesterol is the primary sterol found in animal matter and its analogous counterpart is Phytosterol; the primary sterol found in plant matter. I recently read from a website that phytosterols block cholesterol absorption in the small intestine. This could mean less space for hormone production and ultimately testosterone.

...and if less hormone production, this could explain why natural 'plant-eaters' generally have a fragile body frame with a delicate skeletal system and fine muscle tone. Not enough hormones to activate the osteoblasts in the bone and not enough hormones to activate the myofibrils for myosin and actin production. So if you want a body like Superman's try adding a little more meat to every dish you cook.

I have been a vegan for over two years, and I have never been stronger. I haven't noticed any negative effects, physically or sexually. I am sure it varies across the board, but for me, vegan has only made everything better. Plus, when you eat fruits, your semen tastes surprisingly good, or so the females say. :D

If you consume soy products -- definitely. Soy has been found to lower testosterone levels with prolonged consumption.
