I have just gone for three days with out masturbating and a thought came to mind. Does not ejaculating have a total affect when working out and gaining muscle. You may think this is a weird question but i have been around many bodybuilding forums and seen this question thrown around with many different answers.

People who do masturbate before working out have said it reduces stress and they do not feel like hitting the weights that hard the aggressiveness is not there. Others say that going for around 5 days has a noticeable effect and the some gains and emotions come to play. I know that some athletes in boxing refrain from sex for up to a week before a major match. Mohamed Ali was one of them. I guess it has to do with enhanced aggressiveness but it could just be a myth. I have restrained for three days and will hope to make it at least a month and see if i notice different. I notice that i have been masterbating a lot since starting working out, and while my diet and cardio are better than before and i am maintaining the weights i am getting a little fatter with passing time. I know that testosterone can help aid in fat loss and muscle gain.

Well the reason i ask here is to find out if anyone has any experience to this. I hope a few people here workout and am wondering if anything was different?

It has been a while since you posted this, but I just noticed it. I find that I'm able to put more into my workouts when abstaining and noticed some increased definition in the abdominal area. So, yes, I think there is a definite connection.

Also, when I stack Tibulus Terrestris and ZMA, I seem to have more energy for the workouts and as a nice side effect, it seems to bring on some increased definition as well.

This current study examined the effect of a 3-week period of sexual abstinence on the neuroendocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm. Hormonal and cardiovascular parameters were examined in ten healthy adult men during sexual arousal and masturbation-induced orgasm. Blood was drawn continuously and cardiovascular parameters were constantly monitored. This procedure was conducted for each participant twice, both before and after a 3-week period of sexual abstinence. Plasma was subsequently analysed for concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, prolactin, luteinizing hormone and testosterone concentrations. Orgasm increased blood pressure, heart rate, plasma catecholamines and prolactin. These effects were observed both before and after sexual abstinence. In contrast, although plasma testosterone was unaltered by orgasm, higher testosterone concentrations were observed following the period of abstinence. These data demonstrate that acute abstinence does not change the neuroendocrine response to orgasm but does produce elevated levels of testosterone in males.

This study seemed to be mainly interested in seeing if the hormonal and neurological response to orgasm was the same after three weeks of abstaining. But their study also found that testosterone was elevated after three weeks of abstinence, at the end of the study.

There seems to be some contradictory information there, but it appears that abstinence increases ease of arousal (no surprise there), and that abstinence and arousal increase testosterone.

Testosterone is known to increase muscle size, reduce body fat, increase definition, and increase the ability and motivation to work out harder. So increasing testosterone by abstaining from MB would likely have a positive effect on all of that!

This was a good article to read.

I have noticed in even just a few weeks of me abstaining from MB, that my workouts have been more effective. I have personally shown an increase muscle size, reduction in body fat, and a substation increase in my definition. I also have more motivation to work out harder.

**one side note, since I started abstaining, I have also been taking Zinc...

I work out and I defiantly have more energy and can lift slightly more weight when I have not ejaculated for a while.
A good buddy of mine who is built like a house of bricks says that when he really wants to make some gains in the weight room he fallows a program that says you should abstain from ejaculating for around 7 days and then when you have a few days to rest and recover you should have some heavy sex or masturbating. He says this cycle will keep testosterone levels peaked. Also you should try and get sexually turned on for a while about an hour before lifting but again don't ejaculate.
I wish I had a link or something to where he got this information but I trust his advice because he really knows his stuff. And it does make sense. You do lose a lot of nutrients your body needs for lifting when you ejaculate. Semen has lots of protein in it and growth inducing hormones like testosterone. He has even told me of guys he's heard of that eat their semen when they masturbate for the nutrients but that is a level of commitment beyond what I can wrap my head around.

I believe it's true.

Actually I've read many posts in which people ejaculate when doing some workout, maybe there's a theory or something. When you hit weights you're testosterone levels get up so maybe that's why so many people have SEs while working out.

And your theory about aggressiveness and t-buzz in boxers is true. Once I was hearing an interview with one PRs greatest champions and he said that for the fight he was going to have that weekend he had cutdown the sex, but was relieved cause he was surely going to have WDs. Get the connection. Here's kind of like the interview sounded:

Interviewer: So, your wife should compliment you, so you can make a good fight, this weekend.

Boxer: Jajaja, no when I'm close to a fight that's prohibited, but at least I get WDs and that replaces well.

I would believe it does... when I stopped masturbating for awhile I noticed that I actually quite a bit of weight and I gained more muscle mass in my legs (I bike a lot) during that time period than I had ever experienced previously. When I don't do it... I have more energy to bike further and I can last longer on tough bike rides... even making it up a large mountain.

I find it interesting that body builders would benefit so much from it... I must keep this in mind when I start getting into weight lifting.

I understand that abstaining from waking orgasms can increase your testosterone level, which in turn can help you to gain muscle when exercising them. The other way it may help is by giving you more energy to channel into exercising. For example, if you really want to MB, you can go to the gym to use the energy you would otherwise use to MB.

I recognize some of the comments made here. And I also sleep less hours when I abstinate, wake up earlier in the mornings and feel more energetic during the day.

After reading the above I'm interested to see if my abstination will effect my overall metabolism and muscle growth :)

Ok, right now I'm trying this out since I am at 16 days of abstaining, so I am lifting weights ad doing some workouts to see the results. I'll check back in with this post in about 1 or 2 months into the summer.

Well, right now I'm just started going to the gym this summer working out toning up my body.
I'm not trying to bulk like crazy not at all. I have never masturbated berfore so I wouldn't notice the effects.

Ok, the general concenus within the body building communities is that mbing has no relation to testosterone and muscle gain... but I digress... after mbing I lack desire to workout and for a brief moment I can't reach my max in weights, so in some ways it affects how one workouts.

Nice thread. MB and muscles are totally related. I know this by the worst experience. I havent been able to gain any muscle for the past 3 years due to MB and thats the reason I decide to quit(apart from religious reasons too). MB used to totally suck the stamina out of me and I used to get regular muscle pulls and cramps. During the course of time I found out that if I masturbated on monday I would have enough energy to pump to my full potential only by next monday. This is what has been tormenting me for all these years. You can only imagine my plight when my friends used to ask me why I wasnt gettin huge even though I go to the gym and even when people(at the gym) asked me why wasnt I ever regular. Talk about push-ups,when two years back me and my friend started out with 30 reps in a set,I can still reach only that much today whereas he can do 150-200 in a set today. He picks up 20-30 kilograms whereas Im still stuck at 10. So I finally left the gym and found that it was easier to abstain when not working out(as no energy or stamina is created to be expelled by MB). Its been more than a month that I left and while leaving I promised myself that Im only gonna go back when I successfully stop MB'ing forever. Im at day 25 or something right now and as soon as I complete the 40 day challenge Im heading back come what may.

People grow to their normal size because of hormone produced by pituitary gland inside the brain. This hormone is called human growth hormone or HGH. It is involved in many bodily functions, the most important of which is development of the muscular and skeletal system. HGH enables muscles and bones to grow fast.
