Wat do you think of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games? I've been to one of the torch relay events and I was impressed with the level of pride the Chinese have in holding the Games. I think the Beijing Games will be on eof the best if not the best Olympiad ever held!
Zhongguo Jia You! Onwards China!

I have a feeling the games themselves will go OK. However will be overshadowed by the many protestes and other interuptions caused by China's human rights abuse and polution issues. Also I will not be surprised if the Chinese government have a bunch of cover-up's to explain afterwards, and there will prolly be stories of the officials being too rough/overpowering/restrictive.
Thats just my ideas, especialy considering the Australian gov. is spending $2Million just to keep the torch relay safe, and it only goes through one (small) city. I think Beijing will have to put in soo much more effort to live up to previous games.

Well China has poured in billions of dollars into the Games... I cant wait to see the opening ceremony. It's on 8.8.08 at 8.08 pm. Lol. A very very auspicious number. I doubt there will be much protests in Beijing about the games. Chinese people are really supportive of the game. The only exceptions are the trouble makers in Tibet and Taiwan...
Btw, thursday why do you not support the games?

I just hope no one boycotts the games. It doesn't prove anything, and doesn't do anything politically, and only screws athletes who have been training their whole lives to just have a chance to compete and match up to the rest of the world on the biggest stage.

She'd be starving to death if the USA/olympics didn't give her work to do. She choses to go to work over starving to death.... lesser of evils. So if we boycott the olympics is it going to help the "poor little girls" who are apparently doing that work? No. Then there's the athletes, they wake up at 5:30 every day, so they can eat breakfast before their 6 o'clock training session. Their training sessions can last up to three hours, and they can train up to four times a day. Most of the rest of their time is spent napping, eating, sleeping, or are required to get massage for muscles that are so sore they can barely move. The massage hurts even more. They train until they're dehydrated, have cotton mouth, their brain can't function properly. If for one day they decide they don't want to do it, they'll never ever have the chance in their life to compete in the olympic games again. Don't boycott the games, the athletes are the spectacle, the ones that work day after day after day, longer and harder than these "tortured" factory workers. So that for 4 or 6 or 8 days, they have a chance at being the person who can hoist a medal over their head and hear their national anthem. Don't boycott the olympic games for them. ^^ The athletes should have boycotted the games .. they could have forced the games to be relocated to a non-totalitarian state. It's very sad you seriously compare the plight of oppressed people in China, who are little more than slaves, to the training athletes choose to do. The Olympics aren't making life any better for those living under the Chinese regime. Change only happens when people don't accept injustice anymore. The Games will be a disaster and I'll be glad.

So how much did boycotting the soviet olympics in 1980 do? How many athletes did it screw over that never got their chance? I don't support what China does to it's second class citizens, but using the olympics and taking advantage of the athletes is no better.

Thursday why are you so anti China? Is it because you are afraid that China will challenge the US in the near future? Before you criticise China you should look in the mirror yourself. America may be democratic but they committed a lot of human rights violations themselves but you don't see China making a hoo hah of it... The Us kill people by starting illegal wars in the name of world peace. torture people but deny it. And the Us is the biggest hindrance towards a new UN Climate policy... US IS THE BIGGEST THREAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WORLD!!!
So what if China is a totalitarian state? at least the people there are being brought out of poverty. Boycotting the games will seriously do no good. China will not bother to notice that you snubbed her...

Honestly, if it weren't for America/Europe, who would China sell all of their mass-produced "stuff" to in order to "bring people out of poverty"?
Taking inititative, getting an education, and being inventive in a relatively free, but ethical, market also brings people out of poverty! Allowing child labor even goes against traditional Marxist/communist principles! Also, what about Marx/Engels' 8 hours for work/8 to sleep/8 to do with whatever I want?
PS~Why would China want to "challenge" the US in the future? I thought China was against Japan's attempts at colonialism that led to WWII? Why become the enemy? Remember Nanking! There is no glory in a nation's selfishness, yours or mine

China won't want to challenge the Us but it'll be the Us who will provoke China! The Us is so fond of provoking other nations.... I think China should beef up her nuclear strike force, develop ICBM, nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers to deter US aggression and reunify Taiwan!
I agree with you that selfishness has no role to play... But it's just human nature....
