apart from the discussion about the Bible's attitude to masturbation..

as I'm certain about getting rid of masturbation for good, I look for verses that help me and give me strength, although they do not refer directly to masturnbation or even sexual issues (as in New International Version):

Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the LORD are everywhere,
keeping watch on the wicked and the good.
(under tempation I imagine God looking at me while I'm satisfying myself, I think he wouldn't even want to see me)

Proverbs 1:10
My son, if sinners entice you,
do not give in to them.
(that's for those who claim that masturbation is healthy or good in any ways)

Proverbs 5:18,19
May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
A loving doe, a graceful deer—
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be captivated by her love.
(Sometimes I think of my future wife and the way of fulfilling the sexual urge as our Creator designed, but I'm not going to far with imagination, I only think of the emotional aspects and beeing close to her)

(when my lust forces me to think that I may watch pornography and still restrain from masturbation)

(helps me find strength even if I feel I've gone very far, stomps on my ambition )

then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.
(our endurance helps God to answer the accusations of the Devil)

(we all make mistakes but the point is to head in the right direction. We make progress everytime we persist the evil desire)

(Moses won his fight with the sin, cause he understood that the pleasure of sin would pass away leaving him alone with pangs of conscience)

(make use of the examples of faithfull men, don't let the sin slow you down, that's my advice)

Hebrews 12:16,17
See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.
Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears.
(the pleasure I can gain immediatelly and without looking for God's guidance has no value at all, but the happiness comes from Him cause it's the fruit of His blessing)

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
(for me 'marriage' means above all the rule given by God, that sexual pleasure was given to cement marriage, it's something special and worth waiting for)

James 1:14,15
but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
(you impregnate the desire by thinking of it, so don't! and get rid of the sin before he'll give birth to death!)

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
(no doubt he will flee till another time, but then you'll be stronger)

1 Peter 1:14-16
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
(beeing holy for me means not tolerating any evil desires or thoughts in me)

1 Peter 2:11,12
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
(clear conscience is the thing I miss the most after MB, and I'd like to be ready to provide spiritual help to anyone who needs it, that's one of my strongest motivations)

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
(my combat is always a choice between fulfilling the will of God and that of the Devil)

(knowlege means responsibility. plus: suggestive image to apply to myself when I'm about to fail again)

I wanted to make some projects today but I feel very weak at the moment and I need to apply my mind to the Scripture, so I'll put here some more verses by the way.

Romans 3:24

(one of the many fragments of that kind, focusing on the value of Christ's sacrifice. again: try to compare what he's done for us with any orgasm or other sort of physical pleasure)

Romans 6:11-13
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

(through my baptism I died for the previous life and for sinful desires, so now I want the members of my body to be used by my God as instruments of righteousness)

Romans 6:21
What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!
(no matter if MB results in death, it is something I'm ashamed of)

Romans 7:22,23
For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
(apostle Paul had the same problem as every human beeing: sinful nature inherited from Adam, we don't know what exactly were his desires, maybe it was something I wouldn't even think of as a sin, but he considered it something that he should get rid of. anyway, it's comforting to know that even he was exposed to a similar war against the sin)

Romans 8:6-8
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace
the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
(mind controlled by the sinful nature is mind focused of the flesh and bodily desires, a mind in which body comes first. to let the spirit controll my mind for me means to exercise in puting God's will before my own)

Romans 8:13
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
(hand's up who does not want to live..)

Romans 12:1,2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
(the pattern of this world goes like that: do what you want to do, you decide of your own body, everyone masturbates so don't hesitate etc. but my body is a wonderful gift and I want to appreciate it. and I know obeying God's will is good, pleasing and perfect, though most of people think different)

Romans 13:12-14
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

(I believe that this world is about to end so the day of the new order of things i almost here. I really woudn't want to miss this moment. the last one also has an interesting encouragement: do not think in advance about or plan sinning, for example MB)

(lesson from this fragment is that there are no sinful habits that we're not able to overcome, even homosexual desires, but it's abviously due to God's strong help. In the face of that, masturbation is not so bad )

(masturbation as an addiction tends to master me, and that additionally makes it something inapropriate)

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
(masturbation is also a sin against my own body)

(I wan't to be the one who get's the prize: clear conscience. If I fail again, I act as if I was beating the air, I want to persist, but on the other hand - I want to subdue to the temptation. but if I really want to win, I must 'beat my body' and make it my slave. no more indulgence!)

(helps me to avoid thinking that I failed because the temptation was stronger than me. My Creator is always there to give me enough strenght and to save me from trials that I would be able to go through successfully. it's about looking for the way out, it's always there if I submit myself to God)

Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
(do I seek the good of myself or others when I masturbate?)

1 Corinthians 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
(is it possible to masturbate for the God's glory?)

Greetings everyone!

I am Jewish, so please do not get offended, but I cannot help but tell all of you that G-d does not keep count of how many times you jack off, but he does keep record of how well you treat other people. With that being said, we need to understand that masturbation is a healthy part of a young man's psychological development. People should not refrain from masturbating out of fear, but should do it because that want to. My religion does not strictly forbid me from masturbating, and I very much enjoy masturbating, but I stopped because I wanted to stop...no other reason. So if I can say anything, I will say this: if you want to stop masturbating, stop masturbating because you want to stop, not because you are afraid that G-d will send you to "hell". Let's be reasonable people. G-d is not a monster.

I'm someone who use to be Jewish, is just didn't feel right. Then I found Jesus, or Jesus found me.. :O. Anyway. It's not out of the fear of going to hell, Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It's more to prove to God and ourselves that we have the ability and want to restrain ourselves from sins. I guess in a way it's kind of like showing our appreciation and love for Him. At least thats how I see it :O.

I'm an Anglican, like an Evangelical in the US, but I don't think there is any problem with masturbating. I don't think it is a sin. I was confused about it for ages but then I talked to God about it and I realised it was more of a gift, of relieving stress and stopping you from going out and becoming a father aged 15.

So if I fail I won't feel awful. I just don't want to do it anymore, because I want to feel more in control, but why would God give us something we could do with our own bodies that was a sin. That's the way I see it anyway.
