Has anyone ever tried to go without eating processed sugar for a day? It's incredibly difficult - going for three days without processed or added sugar is even tougher. We intellectually know that processed foods are bad for us - we know we shouldn't eat too much pizza or sweets or salts. And yet, despite the knowledge, we choose to eat these foods anyway. This tells me that we are making decisions not based on rationality, but on impulse. We have been conditioned to choose foods which we know are bad for our health and yet make up a large portion of our diet.

This same phenomenon happened when I was craving porn. The other day, I just started watching it even though I knew intellectually it isn't what I wanted to do. I'm slightly afraid that me reading about other people's precum is actually my substitute for pornography. I've been digging into posts for many hours now~

And for many people who want WDs, they have a hard time breaking their cycle of MB.

These are just a few things that we are conscious about. How many decisions do we make everyday that have nothing to do with Free Will go unnoticed? I'm frightened at the thought that I have less control over my actions that I am led to believe. I bet we are oblivious to most of the habits we believe to be choices. Is it possible to gain more control over our body and the decisions we make?

I guess my point is that beyond the WDs, I find that AB is, potentially, an excellent doorway into the larger goals of greater willpower.

Who here has experiences of utilizing AB as a jump start for self-control in other areas of life? Is that even a goal for some here or is it primarily a search for WDs?

Very true, knocking off porn and MBing helps open the doors to a better you (better eating, more exercise, better sleep, etc)

I agree that controlling something that was out of control can transfer to other areas of behavior. Personally, I have noticed that AB has led to better fitness and strength due to workouts of increased intensity. Also, my diet is better controlled. Before I started to AB, my weight increased to 203 lbs, but now is between 177 and 181.

An surprising side effect of AB has been the mental and physical pleasure derived from avoiding the activity (MB to orgasm) of my addiction. It's not just satisfaction about abstaining, but that abstaining from orgasm and ejaculation is in itself very pleasurable, satisfying and energizing.
