When you look at videos of WDs, the contractions seem to be much greater in number and continue for a longer period of time than with MB. There may be 40 or more contractions, even if they slow down somewhat, and even if the ejaculation of fluid stops at some point. With MB there may be 6 to 8 or so contractions, after which they typically stop.

This fits with what is a frequent description of WDs, namely that the orgasm is more intense and lasts a lot longer than with MB. One possible explanation for this difference is that the brain/body identifies MB as a waste and cuts it short, whereas it sees WDs as the same as having sex, so maximizes and extends the pleasure and empties everything out. So more semen volume in a WD than with MB makes sense.

Another indication that the body recognizes the difference between MB and WDs is that MB typically leaves a person turned off and let down, while a guy can feel even more horny after a WD even though he's more 'empty' than after MB. A guy typically doesn't want to think about MB for a while after doing it, but a guy can be excited and ready after a good WD to do it again as soon as possible. That natural post-WD horniness probably helps rebuild the semen volume more quickly after a WD than after MB.

These two differences (the number of contractions and the horniness level afterwards) may actually be different aspects of the same thing. Perhaps the brain/body recognizes that MB is taking place and cuts the orgasm short (compared to all out emptying in a WD) by forcing the 'letdown' before the orgasm and ejaculation is really finished. And that 'letdown' continues for hours after the MB is finished.

I've found my wet dream ejaculate to be noticeably thicker and stickier, with almost an eggwhite consistency compared to sex or masturbation.

Particularly when I was a teenager/in college, I would lift up my waistband and be amazed at the number of "threads" of semen that would connect my pubic mound to my penis and briefs.

I can see your thinking but I am not so sure myself. I should say that I have not experienced a wet dream but I have experience both masturbation and sex.

My experience of both of those is that most of the semen is ejaculated towards the start. For me, typically, the spurts with the biggest volume are 2 and 3. Four and five can vary somewhat and after that it rapidly becomes hardly anything, such that there are contractions at the end that don't really deliver anything. If I am especially turned on this can make those first spurts stronger and, I think, deliver more rather than add productive contractions to the end.

Again, I am not convinced the body "knows" what kind of activity it is. I had one of those super-intense orgasm with really powerfull initial spurts the first time I edged for a long time (about 4.5 hours) and also the occasion I think my eldest daughter was conceived* It wasn't a case of trying to get every last drop into her but getting a decent sized load as far as possible into her.

So, if a wet dream results in more thorough emptying that my experience of either sex or masturbation, it must be for some other reason.

One possibilty might have something to do with a breeding season. As humans, we don't really have one, or morer correctly ours lasts all year round, but other animals do and have hormone fluctuations to bring it about. I was reminded of a film in which a stag rubbed his antlers on the ground until he ejaculated. Without specifically saying that this was the stag version of masturbation, the narator mentioned that the stags competed for the right to breed, that the breading season was at and end and this stag had lost out. So maybe an extended period of abstinence is a signal that it isn't going to happen for you, dump the load you've built up and try again next season. It would not be the first thing where we have echos of things in that way.

The other thought that occurred to me is that it might be like discovering a refridgerator that has been left a long time, for example going on a world cruise and forgetting to empty it. In that situation you may look at it think that is there probably something still edible in their if your search for it, and wash it, but actually you just throw everything out and start again. Maybe it's the same with WDs - by the time you get to having one its a case of your semen being so stale the body has a complete clear out and a fresh start. That would also explain something else someone mentioned, and which I have experienced to, that upon MBing after an abstinence not only is that initial load bigger but the desire to do it again happens sooner too, often very soon like only an hour later, as if that second session to empty out anything the first one didn't take care of.

And I forgot the footnote:

* The reason I say it was probably when our daughter was conceived was because firstly the date worms out on the calendar but also she had been gettinh gradually hornier all week and this was the peak. Then, the following day she wasn't even slightly horny. That's fairly typical and I think is all tied up with the sudden hormone change around ovulation so it is a case of her body know exactly when the best time to conceive is and when is too late.

And her level of horniness rubs off on me. I don't know if is just via body language and encouragement but I think pheromones are involved. If the latter, this is another possible factor that could influence the timing of wet dreams.

This is reasonable. I would also add that we humans may always be "in season" but we are still very much about routine cycles and patterns. Before being apart for a time and having kids, my wife and I had sex almost every Saturday morning. It took a months for me to not wake up horny on Saturday mornings. Point being that your body will begin to accommodate whatever schedule you're on and when you get knocked off that schedule your body will try to catch up if it can.

The same questions apply to your friend who averages a WD about every 3 nights. Somebody who has WDs that often typically MBs very little if at all, and may not even feel any need to MB. But there are exceptions, a very few people can MB quite often and still get frequent WDs.

And if he doesn't MB, there's the question of whether his WDs are a side effect of his AB, or if they are one of the main reasons he ABs?
