OK, please excuse my ignorance here, but I'm pretty much unfamiliar with pre-cum and I have some questions. I don't generally don't have any moisture until the "grand finale" and I always thought that was pretty normal.

Pre-cum generally accompanies arousal, right, but do some of you get leakage at times when you're not hard? From the sounds of what I've been reading in the forums, it can happen without any direct, manual stimulation? Does it come out pretty much on it's own or are there contractions like an orgasm, or the ones leading up to one?

As far as understand it, pre-cum is produced and released from the prostate gland and is intended as a lubricant to aid penetration. It is super slippery, more so than any man made lubricant I have ever used. I produce it by simply thinking about arousing things whether soft or hard, although the quantity is much greater when I am hard during MB and even greater still when I am about to have sex.
Eventually, enough is produced to cover my shaft completely.

I guess everyone is different and produces different amounts, from none to loads. I produce large cum loads too, so must have a high natural sexual fluid production.

As said before, keeping hydrated properly sure helps for those trying to produce more. I also find contracting my abs to put pressure on the prostate during play also helps it flow better, as well as milking it up the shaft.

Boxer is right, just not were pre cum is formed. Its produced on the Cowper's glands, two glands sticked beneath your penis, lets say. And pre cum, is a clear liquid with a basic pH. It's purpose is to neutralize the acidic conditions of the urethra, so the sperm is alive when it gets out of the penis (sperm really doesn't like acid).
The production of it varies from men to men and depends on many factors, like nutrition, hydration and genetics, just to give 3 of them.
For me, i don't produce much. Recently, while AB, i've found myself producing a bit more. All guys produce it, the amount is what varies. In some males the production is so big it overloads and can cover even the penis and serve as a natural lubricant, in others cases the production is very slim, and so, you cannot see it.
