I know there are ppl who say "Why would you want to stop masturbating and give up being able to have an orgasm whenever you want, just so you can maybe have a wet dream?" And I see their point. But I think what drives us is 1. The surprise factor: When you were a kid, which was more fun. seeing a toy you liked in the store and asking your parents for it, or having them give you a surprise present when you weren't even expecting it? Living every day with the knowledge that you might have a WD tonight keeps life exciting. and 2. Because from your perspective what is happening in a dream seems totally real (as opposed to with fantasies where you're always aware in the back of your mind it isn't real), WDs are more like the experience of actually havinf sex, at least mentally. Now, if a person were in a sexual relationship, 2 wouldn't apply, of course since they's already be getting the real thing, and 1 could still happen whenever their partner decides to unexpecdedly initiate sex. So giving up partner sex for WDs doesn't make as much sense, but I can definately see how WDers have it better in some ways than MBers.

I have two girl friends who doesn't like the idea of me Ab but I didn't tell them the real reason. haha They want me to just do it because they're concern about my sexual health like, "you need that stuff out of your body because it's unhealthy to keep it for a long time." I've heard guys say that too, that males need to MB to release built-up fluid or it is bad for the plumbing, so to speak And some studies have shown that infrequent ejaculation leads to a gerater risk of prostate probs. But I think a lot of guys who say that want a "legitimate excuse" to MB. Frankly I get frustrated sometimes knowing that as a girl I *don't* really have any legitimate physical "need" to my MB, yet feel like I do anyway.And a lot of girls really don't understand the whole WD thing at all, since they've never had 1 and possibly never even heard much about them, since even us girls who do have them don't really discuss it amongst ourselves. Another thought I had on the virtues of not MB. I was going thru my old posts and found 1 where I'd discussed the whole "waking up kust short of cumming" thing (which I realize I've started like 3 topics on, sorry guys but it REALLY frustrates me) and someone suggested it might be relegious guilt. I was raised Southern Baptist and do have some guilt over sex, but I wondered "If relegious guilt keeps me from cumming in my dreams, why do I have no trouble when I MB, even though I feel guilty about that too"? But it just occured to me, the body is biologicaly programmed to respond in a certain way to certain stimuli, even some rape victims experience physical pleasure sensations/orgasm even as they are mentally suffering. So know I understand why some ppl here refer to MB as raping yourself, because 1 part of your mind can essentially use your body's normal, natural response to physical stimulation to force you to climax, even against the will of the more moral part of your mind. So in a sense, it can be an attack of the lower part of one's self against the higher part, using one's body as the wepon. Wow, that sounds like I've gone off MB altogether and I haven't, I can also see that at is relatively harmless compared to most other sex acts and even as I'm writing of the dissadvantages of MB, I'm feeling a compelling urge to do it. And I'm not really trying to quit MB totally forever, just trying to have more WDs and gain a sense of self-control. But what I just said above sounds like the hardcore no-fap ppl are converting me. Or maybe I'm just starting to outgrow MB, at least as a regular habit.

Oh, OK. I think girls are even more likely to deny MBing than boys are. Since the general consensus seems to be that MB is a mormal healthy part of being male that guys need to do for physical reasons, while for girls it's just a bad, nasty thing that "good girls" would never do.

Very interesting perspective. It's true that traumatic events or conditioned behaviors can manifest themselves in curious ways when it comes to sexuality. Freud was all over this. His whole approach was that our sexual health is a direct indicator of our mental health.
