This is the reason why I keep failing. I have gone 13 days as of yesterday doing well and when I watched porn, bam I gave in. I almost had a wetdream the night before too.
Honestly I think the best thing to do is just not to watch it and avoid it at all costs.

Having sex with a person is fine, because it is natural... however watching porn is not real in the sense that you are not actively involved in the acts and is just stimulating your mind giving you a sense of pleasure while reducing the actual pleasure you get in real life when you are involved with a person. Due to the fact that your mind has gotten to an excitement level and typically what you get in real life sometimes cannot overcome fantasy or what you see through porn. Thus is can reduce the level of intimacy in relationships and prevent one from getting a wetdream, or cause someone to fail abing.

This is the reason I have failed and given in each time, and I am done with it. Yeah, I will still have urges to click and watch... but I have to control that and just go on. My goal is to make 90days abstain from masturbation and porn. I will be intimate with my partner, however.... will not give into the other two. It is possible to have wetdreams and se's after being intimate with someone, because I had an se just a couple of days after being sexually involved with my partner.

None the less, I am just curious how many people have failed and given in to porn and not reached their goal due to porn.

ive pretty much given up porn. i have watched some a little bit since i quit over a year ago but i too have found anything more than a quick view and im very likely to give in.

People. I think there's really something irregular with me. I'm in an idle or neutral state for already 12 days. In 12 days, I wasn't horny or even feel so much desire. Thanks for the post and the poll. I have not recently failed because of porn but lately I've been coming very close far too often. I've gone over 4 years without MB and my life is better because of it so I don't really want to start down that path again. It would be easier if I stayed away from porn but I keep getting sucked back into it. If you or anyone else on this forum is serious about AB from porn and is willing to be an accountability partner for me, please let me know by PM or email so we can work out a way to stay away from porn and AB even longer. to be honest i don't really watch porn that much, got a shit ton of it from over the years but i just don't really feel the need for it now

I guess since I've not MB'd yet looked at porn for over 4 years, I too have learned how to come close without going over the edge. Last night I took that to a new test. Eh, a part of the reason I have started to AB, and so far MB is not a problem for me, is because I've become partially to completely desensitized to most of the porn I like. If, at the very least, I can restore my sensitivity to this kind of stuff, I'd be pretty happy.

Still, I think porn exists both because of our imaginations and because our society offers fewer chances for us to make real connections with people. Still, if we do not allow ourselves to be stimulated, sometimes, what would our wet dreams be about? Trees?

I say it's different for each person. I've seen porn help some people here get closer to a WD here, and I've seen some people on here who watch porn and it instantly and almost unconsciously makes their hand grip their penis. So... it's about whatever works best for you.

I totally agree with you that porn offers a chance to connect with others where we can be more open about our sexuality, including our fantasies. For me, it goes back to when I was going through puberty during the late 60's. I was masturbating regularly but because the only things I heard about MB among my peers was jokes that made it sound like only total losers MB'd. I really had no idea that almost every one of them was doing it too. Once I learned that about 5 years later from a book I found in the library, I became obsessed with breaking the "code of silence". I have never found a healthy way to do that so porn has been the next best thing. For me, it's as if I am trying to make up for all the secrecy of my adolescence. I wish I could just let it go but, so far, no luck.

As for the desensitization issue, this is why most chronic porn users are constantly looking for new material that restores the hit that they used to get. This often leads to a full blown addiction, as in my case. Ten years of trying to stop and the longest I've ever gone is 22 months.

I also became bored by porn. It's pretty unrealistic and looking at it is pointless if you are trying to stay abstinent, since the whole point of porn is to stimulate fantasies for masturbation. It pretty much guarantees failure.

I would equate viewing porn as in riding a bucking bronco. Riding the bronco is certainly exciting and you certainly can get hurt. But I enjoy a little bit of porn viewing and/or sexy explicit stories to raise my horniness level when I'm in a bit of a downer.
