Theory about sugar intake vs. WD frequency

Postby Zach » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:51 am

i spend a lot of time helping my dad and daves dad at the race racetrack and we travel and often spend 3 -5 days at these tracks all over in LA, vegas, phoenix, fallon, bakersfield etc. and i noticed that when im gone on these trips one of which just occured last weekend, that i tend to be extremely horny and often have a WD either during the trip in the motorhome or soon after returning. after looking at the dates on calendar that i had WDs and the race dates i found i had a WD often within 1-3 days of a race which has made me think of why that would happen. my sleep habits are essentially the same. i always stay up late at home and at race track and get up early for school or races except during breaks where i can sleep in such as the case for me this week. the biggest variable i could think of between my home life and racing is eating. when im home i eat like most people, breakfast, lunch and dinner and normal portions and i drink water but i tend to drink a lot of pepsi and my snacks tend to be a lot of junk, cookies, cake, popsicles etc. when im at the races im busy for long periods and it usually hot so i drink a lot of water like probably 12-14 bottles of water and snacks are usually a bag of Ruffles chips laying around and i just grab a small handfull once in awhile as i walk by and a granola bar. breakfast is usually a simple breakfast burrito with egg, hash browns, bacon and sausage with cheddar cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. lunch never happens cuz were racing all day so just small bites of whatever is around usually chips or sometimes someone brings a bag of beef jerky and ill snack on that and after races a BBQ with 20-30 people is common and is usually a hamburger or BBQ chicken or maybe Carne Asada and we go to bed and repeat the process again the next day until race is over then we head home and normal life resumes. so i have thought this through and i think my sugar intake is affecting my WD frequency. im not sure if its quantity or the fact that at the track my meals are typically small and spread apart throughout the day but ive been testing this theory. 3 days before our race i stopped eating candy and limited my pepsi intake to 2 cans a day at most, no milk, only water and a splash of natural cranberry juice maybe once a day. nothing with a lot of sugar or especially high fructose corn syrup. and my meals have been mostly mahi mahi, halibut or chicken and carne asada and almost always with a salad though i did have a new york strip steak and shrimp at the Outback restaurant on monday evening. im gonna do this for another week or so and see what happens then im gonna go back to my normal diet of junk for 1 month and see what happens.

i have been ABing for 14 days and normally i have a WD on average once every 7 1/2 days. i had no real dreams then around day 7 or 8 i changed my diet as i described above and since then i have had 2 WD's and almost a 3rd. So on average im back to normal but im seeing a definite pattern of WD's during or immediately after the races. i may be over thinking this and it could just be the smell of tire smoke and 112 octane racing fuel just makes me want to have raging sex im not really sure. haha!!

So i was thinking that maybe if someone who is not having much luck getting a WD wanted to test my theory and see if it helps at all. i have heard that guys with diabetes and high blood sugar find it very difficult to pop a boner so maybe this applies even to guys who dont have diabetes but sugar levels are higher due to the fact that everything we buy to eat and drink these days has high fructose corn syrup which is nothing but concentrated sugar. anyways just something ive been thinking about and i would be interested to see if it affects others. ill let you know my results in about 6 weeks and of course u can follow along by reading my log if u want. and if someone does try id really be interested in hearing your results.

I had been researching testosterone earlier today, and still had this page up. Here's a quote:
Researchers found that 75 grams of pure glucose – and the resultant spike in blood sugar – was enough to drop testosterone levels by as much as 25% in a random grouping of healthy, prediabetic, and diabetic men. Now keep in mind how rapidly many SAD carb choices (pasta, cereal, bread, etc) convert to glucose upon digestion…

Personal anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that testosterone is a factor in WDs, which, in my opinion, is why WDs are easier for younger guys than, umm, more seasoned men. And if diet were able to reduce testosterone levels in a younger man, I would expect his WD frequency to also be reduced. It will be interesting to see if your quantitative data supports this theory! Cool research idea!

I went to the store today to pick up a drink. Normally, I would have went right to the pop and chosen Pepsi, but today, I decided to be sugar and fructose-conscious, and select a "healthy" drink, suck as apple juice or orange juice. I was floored by what I found out. I was looking on the label of the drinks, and even the "healthy" drinks like apple juice, have anywhere from 20-35 grams of sugar per 250mL. Wow! I ended up walking out with a chocolate milk instead, thinking to myself, milk is good for the body, no? Well, normally it is. By itself. In hindsight, the chocolate content put the sugar level at 28g per 250mL (it was a 500mL drink). In trying to chose a healthy drink, I should have gone with plain water. Even my normal consumption of coffee, I have 3-4 tsp of sugar for every cup of coffee I drink, and I can drink anywhere from 2-6 cups a day. I need to get out of this cycle >.< I am now convinced this high sugar/low physical activity lifestyle I have chosen has a direct influence on my low semen production. (I've been trying to unsuccessfully increase my semen production for the past couple of years). For most guys, the longer you AB, the more semen your body produces, and when you produce more semen, your tanks fill faster and you (in theory) would get more frequnt WD's. So - increase your semen production, and you increase your chances of WD's, right? Well, I'd like to put this thoery in action, and see if it holds any truth.

This article I came across explains the dangers of fructose, and the negative impacts it can have on our bodies in high amounts:

zach, You have a great idea for an experiment. I hope it helps unravel the mystery for getting wd's.

sequiro. The food companies put suger in all sorts of places. Even shows up in things like bread and pasta sauce. I gave up soda 10 years ago and am glad I did. I replaced it with carbonated water (selzer, or soda water). That is my first choice and I drink it when it is available. It has the fizz of soda but no sugur or sweetener chemicals.

Would be nice if we find out guys can improve diet AND get wd's :)

So I've been a lurker here for a while and this is actually the first topic I feel I actually have relevant information towards lol. I actually am diabetic and have been for 5 years. I've never had a wet dream so I can't speak directly to the correlation between high sugar levels and WD frequency. I can say however that from the time I was pre-diabetic and had normal sugar levels to being diabetic and sometimes having egregious high blood sugar levels it hasn't really affected the amount of semen I can produce or how easy or difficult it is to get a boner. If I have high blood sugar levels for a long period of time though then that does cause me to get dehydrated which if left unchecked probably could affect how much sperm I make. That's more indirectly related though. Even a dehydrated person with normal sugar levels would probably make less sperm.

I have to weigh in on this one. I read somewhere that a tablespoon or two of honey before going to bed every night can increase your semen. I can confirm that it definitely does for me (also very sticky) after about a week or two. As for rock hard hard-ons, taking a calcium, magnesium and zinc tablet about 3 times a week does that for me. If I get too much I get an almost painful hard-on before waking. And, if I notice that I haven't been waking with hard-ons it usually means I haven't taken it for a while.

I still have not been able to have a WD. It is not because I don't produce enough semen. After a few weeks abstaining it can shoot out in a clear stream with only a simi-erection and very little encouraging.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and your mileage may very.

I'm sure aspartame is worse for your member, WD, SE and every other sweetener out there. http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/ ... r-you.html

Its a fantastic theory and the information specially for me because i was using lot of sugar. I will try to reduce the usage of sugar because i learned lot of things. Sugar is not good and causes so many health problems so i suggest everyone to read this theory about sugar.
