Are there any studies to suggest a connection ? Could this be the missing link with people who have WDs more frequently ? I read somewhere that REM sleep happens for only a short time of the whole time we're asleep. So even if you think you had this dream where it felt like hours it actually may have taken 15 minutes for your brain to create it. Has anyone ever had a WD and then gone back to sleep and had a dream ? |

REM sleep is the part when you're dreaming. Also, time doesn't exist, it's something us humans have created. I always have my WDs during REM sleep, sometimes I semi-awaken, sometimes I don't. It's the same as, for example, if I hear a noise while I'm sleeping I'll be aware of what's happening, but not be woken up by it; at the most I'll be semi-awoken. In both cases, I could choose to completely wake up, or to go back into REM sleep.

I don't think it is possible to have a WD outside of REM sleep. REM sleep is required for a WD as far as I know.
REM sleep accounts for about 20% of the total time we're asleep in a normal sleep pattern, so assuming an 8 hour sleep time, that's a little more than an hour and a half.
It is true that time perspective is warped when we're dreaming. Our dreams generally take much longer in our minds than has actually elapsed. Same is true while ejaculating in a WD - the orgasm, ejaculation, and contractions all seem to last much longer and go in slow motion. The seemingly prolonged pleasure is one of the great things about experiencing a WD. Who wouldn't want an orgasm that seems to last for several minutes, when in reality it is only lasting about 10 seconds?

My first ejaculation was a wet dream, and I vividly remember that experience. When I woke up I didn't have wet sheets I just felt that my penis felt good and heavy! I thought I had to urinate and when stood there to urinate I realized I almost couldn't because there was some unfinished business. As I tried to get out the remaining amount I actually got to experience the remaining waves of orgasm if that makes sense. It wasn't entirely a memorable experience because I didn't even know about sex or anything like that and I was running to my mom soon after to tell her about this mysterious white substance. |

I had to wait till I was much older to realize why she hastily said "oh that's nothing it's normal" and went quickly back to the kitchen. |

Has anyone ever had a WD and then gone back to sleep and had a dream ? | i have a parasomnia condition, maybe even a slight case of narcolepsy, where i pass in and out of REM sleep, without going through the 4 sleep cycles. i will often go straight into REM upon falling asleep, sometimes having a wet dream after only being asleep for 15-30 minutes. i like it because i have more sex dreams, especially as i've been abstinant for a while, but the downside is i feel more tired throughout the day than a person who does not have parasomnia. |
